In 2016 we have begun to support the training and post graduate education of Ophthalmic Clinical Officers (OCOs) in Nairobi. An OCO association has been formed recently in Kenya under the guidance of Mr George Ohito with the intention of upskilling that cadre of worker. OCOs are thinly and widely scattered throughout the various regions of Kenya and are extremely important in the ophthalmic care of the 45 million people in the country. A first course in refraction was held in November 2016 and was conducted by Steve Abery a British optometrist.
We intend to build up our support of OCO post graduate education in Kenya and we have also given financial support to help the OCO association.
