We have just completed our first teaching visit to India .We conducted a 4 day course for non -medical ophthalmic officers in Pune (in the state of Maharashtra). This course which contained a mixture of interactive lecturing and clinical upskilling was very well received and we are much indebted to our hosts in Pune at the HV Desai Hospital.

The teaching was of a general nature but we did place emphasis on the effects of diabetes in the eye. As in many countries there is alarming rise of the prevalence of diabetes in India and consequent impact on vision. Treatment is both expensive and complex.

We hope to repeat this course and also to establish another centre in northern India from which to teach.
