Between 2013-6 we have funded the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant bridging programme courses organised by the Rwandan International Institute of Ophthalmology.

These workers have a vital role to play in the development of ophthalmic services by not only acting as independent health care professionals, but by enabling the few ophthalmologists to concentrate on more complex sight saving work.

We have also supported modules on these courses related to paediatric ophthalmology by sending orthoptic teachers to Rwanda.
